Spoiler Alert: Avatar 2 in the Making!

I am a sci-fi fan. I love sci-fi movies, books, cartoons, etc. Anything to do with the imagination and the world beyond our own has always intrigued me. It was mostly due to my Dad. He was always taking me to Star Wars movies and passing down his much-loved Tolkien and Jordan novels... You could say all of the exposure definitely had a strong affect on me.

When the first previews came out for Avatar, I knew I needed to see it. No doubt about it. I had to see it asap! I tried to show the trailor to some of my friends and they all said that it looked silly and childish and that they hated sci-fi movies. Why would you ever cut off an entire genre through sheer ignorance? I was determined to go, even if I had to go alone. Luckily, one of my movie-buff friends decided that he would go with me. So off we went... and I was most assuredly blown out of the water. I am still, to this day, speechless. I've seen it 4 times. No, you can't laugh at my until you have seen the movie for yourself.

Needless to say, when the class was asked to write a blog about a newsarticle they had found onlline, I entered Avatar into the "News" feature of google.com. And the first article to pop up was titled, "James Cameron Says 'Everyone's Highly Motivated' For Avatar Sequel." My ears perked up, my eyes zoned in on the title, and my finger was clicking the mouse before I knew what hit me. I just had to know! Was there going to be another one??

It seems that James Cameron and the entire Avatar cast is gungho about a sequel. No contracts or network deals have been officially made, but I am under the influence that if James Cameron has gotten it in his head that he wants to make a second one, he Will make a sequel. He is pretty much the Father of Science Fiction as we know of it today. Him and George Lucas that is...

But back to the article... Cameron is off in Australia working on an undersea, cave adventure movie of some sort. Though, I can only imagine that his mind must stray to his lovely blue Na'vi tribe. I know mine does. I really hope the sequel is actually in the making and not a fictional and painful rumor out to destroy the hearts of sci-fi lovers all around the world.

Beat That Beat Before It Beats You!

Jersey Shore... seems to be a world-wide guilty pleasure. It's odd when someone post "GTL" on their Facebook Status and 35 "likes" later they take it down from sheer annoyance at all the email notifications they received. They wanted popularity, not chain mail. But the weirdest thing is, was that those 35 people all knew what "GTL" stood for: Gym, Tan, Laundry. The mantra of the Jersey Shore Guidos. And all of America as well... for we all, for the most part, secretly dedicated an hour of our lives every Thursday night to watch the antics of the Jersey Shore crew.

I know I did. Some people used it as a pregame session. Others as an alternative to going out on a Thursday night because the excuse that "I can't go, Jersey Shore is on" was simply... just that good. But still others think that the show was a trashy tv show created simply to raise MTV ratings. That it was an insult to the actual Jersey Shore.

I fear that I have to disagree... as much as I do not want to raise my hand and out myself. It is one of those where you pretend to be scratching your head until the professor asks you if you are actually stretching or commenting. I am commenting. I loved the Jersey Shore show. If I missed a show. I would watch the reruns. I was that bad. But in me admitting that I watched it, I am letting out some of the confusion as to why I sat down to watch this trashy show every Thursday night at 10pm.

Beat the Beat... You gotta do it if the Beat beats you. There's a "situation" here. Grenadeeee! I know all of the lines from the show. And they have been incorporated into college life. The people who hated the show, hate on the people who loved the show. It seems like there is no middle ground with college students. But all I want people to know is that this show is a simple, guilty pleasure. It is not a reflection of our own personalities. It is not a recording of our own lives. We do not live our lives from party to party like the Jersey Shore crew. We all have our own goals and dreams in life. Just because we watch a tv show that you do not like does not mean that you should judge us by our pasttimes. I'm sure you have a few skeletons in your own closet that you are just too scared to admit to the world.

I am admitting this one openly. I like the trashy, classless, lovable Jersey Shore crew. And I honestly hope that there is another season.

If you are a fellow lover like myself. Here are some fleshy additions to my blog. Feel free to click around. Who knows... maybe you might find yourself in a great "situation"....

Blogs Duke it Out With "Regular Websites"

I find that the easiest and probably most obvious answer between a regular Blog and a "Regular Website" would quite simply be: one is the self-expression of the current moment with no editing, research, or background sources and the other is an in-depth information producer that's sole purpose is to educate, not entertain or enlighten.

I realize that some websites can be for sheer entertainment and some blogs may just be a listing of links if the author so chooses. But in my mind, the deep, dark secret behind these two concepts are what I have written above.

Blogging is finger exercises. Its woolgathering. Its cloud watching.
Regular Websites are science fair projects. And dissertations. And allnighters.

If you are sick and tired of those bleary-eyed websites, come read my blog. I may even invoke a smile or two from you...
